Project LIT Book Clubs

Do you wish you could pick the books you get to read and discuss in school? Are you looking for a safe space to talk about the issues that you wish we talked more about in school — like racism, inequality, and justice? Do you want to connect with characters who actually look, talk, and feel like you?

Project LIT is a book club that celebrates diversity and invites difficult conversations. We will read and discuss books that feature diverse characters and reflect the realities of our world today.  You’ll find characters who fight against racism, poverty, prejudice, and hate. You’ll also find characters who embrace their identities, overcome challenges, solve mysteries, and discover true friendships.  We want every kid to have books that both reflect your own lives AND books that introduce you to new perspectives.

Read the Books!

Even if you can’t join the book clubs, you can still read and talk about the Project LIT books.

You can find the middle grade (grades 5-8) selections here, and the YA (grades 7 or 8 and up) here!

Book of the Month!

The September Book of the Month is Born a Crime by Trevor Noah.

“Trevor Noah shares his story of growing up in South Africa, with a black South African mother and a white European father at a time when it was against the law for a mixed-race child like him to exist. But he did exist–and from the beginning, the often-misbehaved Trevor used his smarts and humor to navigate a harsh life under a racist government.” (description from Goodreads)
